Senator Ita Enang, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs on Wednesday said President Muhammadu Buhari is on top of the situation despite his failure to address the nation on the violence that has trailed the #EndSARS protests across the country.
Violence that rocked #EndSARS protests across the country worsened on Tuesday with 43 protesters and six policemen losing their lives.
In Lagos alone, no fewer than 29 people, including two policemen, were killed when the police shot protesters in different parts of the state. In the Lekki area of the state, armed soldiers allegedly shot sporadically at the #EndSARS protesters, killing no fewer than seven persons in the process.
The Senate and other concerned Nigerians have appealed to President Buhari to address the nation so as to calm frayed nerves.
But speaking on Channels Television programme ‘Sunrise Daily’, Enang who admitted that the pictures of the killings are depressing, however said the President is on top of the situation even though he doesn’t speak all the time.
The President doesn’t come to talk at every moment and at every point in time. He gives instructions and it goes down. Let me tell you that those pictures are depressing and incensing. They are not comfortable and less than noble”.
” But I want to plead with Nigerians that please, it is time for us to come to the table. The table has been created in every states. All the demands made by the #EndSARS protesters have been accommodated. The other ones which are now multiplying and increasing are being accommodated”.
” I want to say that in the coming days, you will see the actions that will come from the presidency and Nigerians will be satisfied. But the most important thing is, let us come to the table. Two, let us obey lawful order as to curfew and three, let us know that while you protest, the police will be protecting you. We agree that this government is a product of protests”.
